Meredith N. Smith

Meredith N Smith

Meredith Smith joined Community Health Outreach (CHO) as Executive Director in September 2019. Smith previously worked fifteen years in editorial acquisitions for corporate publishing, employed by global corporations that included Men’s Health Magazine and Hachette Livre, before transitioning into a career in healthcare. A licensed health care worker, Smith prioritizes evidence-informed care and long-term health for patients with chronic health issues. She brings a depth of experience from volunteering in large metropolitan areas—women’s homeless shelter in New York City, a food bank in Toronto, and a medical clinic in Nashville—to the services in hunger assistance, maternal and children’s health support, and no-cost medical and dental care at CHO.

Virginia J. Pillsbury

Virginia J. Pillsbury

Virginia Pillsbury came on board as the assistant director of Community Health Outreach in September 2019. Before that she was an active CHO volunteer and board member.

As assistant director, Virginia oversees the management of the Food Pantry and Baby Luv. Additionally, she manages programs, fundraisers, events, and social media.

A mission trip to Guatemala in the summer of 2011 caused Virginia to want to help those in need in Jacksonville. That desire led her to volunteer with Church without Walls, Clara White Mission, and The Sulzbacher Center. She also completed two units of Clinic Pastoral Education with Baptist Health.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Emory University and she has served as a freelance writer as well as contributing editor for Beson4 Media Group before becoming involved in local ministries. Virginia is married to Walter and they have six children and five grandsons. Virginia and Walter attend St. Peter’s Church which was the founding body of CHO in 1988.

Shavon Botsford

Shavon Botsford

Shavon manages Baby Luv’s pregnancy crisis center while offering much needed help to our beloved clients.

Free pregnancy testing is provided, and clients can come and shop at Baby Luv once a month and choose clothing, shoes, toys, books, and baby equipment. Clients also can receive diapers, wipes, and formula monthly.

Shavon’s favorite thing about working at Baby Luv is the serendipity that happens in real time. Everyday something is donated and almost immediately another person comes in who desperately needed that item. It is a beautiful way to spend a day!

She loves seeing her own children’s clothes go out on another beautiful baby. Amazingly that happens often because most people take care of items they receive and then donate them back for another child. It is the sweetest.

Charles Green

Charles Green

As Food Pantry manager Charles Green oversees the receiving and distribution of food. He assumes total responsibility for all pantry operations including transportation, storage, ground, etc.

He loves the warm, friendly, and down to earth atmosphere at CHO and he enjoys helping people.

Green says that at CHO we pay no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated, and each and every day we gladly serve those who come to us in need.
